Trenchless Beneath the Poudre: A River Crossing Case Study
How our HDD crew installed 800 feet of 12-inch steel beneath the Cache la Poudre without disturbing a single foot of riverbank.

The Challenge
When a regional utility needed to run new 12-inch steel pipe beneath the Cache la Poudre River, open-cut was off the table. The environmentally sensitive corridor and strict permitting meant trenchless was the only path.
Our Approach
We mobilized a mid-size HDD rig and drilled a guided pilot bore beneath the riverbed, steering through mixed alluvial soils and saturated sand. After reaming to diameter, we pulled the steel casing in a single shot.
The Result
- 820 linear feet installed in one bore
- Zero surface disturbance to the riverbank
- Full compliance with USACE and state permits
This is the kind of work Directional Plus was built for — precise, clean, and done right the first time.
